A Tradução Aplicada à Área Judicial: Uma Experiência em Contexto Profissional na Policia Judiciária Portuguesa

Abstract

O presente Relatório tem como intenção apresentar os problemas e as dificuldades de tradução com que um tradutor ou uma tradutora pode deparar-se ao traduzir textos de cariz técnico-científico, uma vez que a tradução aplicada à área judicial tem um conjunto de particularidades que devem ser analisadas, de forma a que seja possível preparar alunos de cursos de Tradução para a sua integração no mercado laboral em Portugal no qual a procura por tradutores e intérpretes que possuam conhecimentos jurídicos especializados tem vindo a aumentar ao longo dos anos. Para tal, a estagiária que o redigiu optou por relatar a sua experiência no contexto profissional da Polícia Judiciária, onde realizou um estágio curricular, durante o qual levou a cabo inúmeras traduções (com recurso ao par de línguas inglês-português) e retroversões (com recurso ao par de línguas português-inglês) que se encontram anexadas no final deste Relatório, juntamente com os respetivos textos originais. A metodologia utilizada neste projeto de investigação teve por base a leitura e a análise dos textos originais, às quais se seguiram a interpretação dos mesmos. Após adquirir conhecimento sobre cada texto original, a estagiária identificou e descreveu pormenorizadamente os problemas e as dificuldades de tradução que cada um desses textos lhe apresentou. Em seguida, expôs cada um deles, mediante a inserção de exemplos práticos retirados dos textos originais que lhe foram entregues para traduzir ou retroverter, e esclareceu quais foram as estratégias e técnicas que utilizou para ultrapassar os problemas e dificuldades em questão. Por fim, tirou algumas conclusões, com o objetivo de esclarecer os interessados em tradução acerca das especificidades e dos condicionamentos relacionados com o contexto laboral institucional que molda o trabalho efetuado pela equipa de tradutores e intérpretes que integram o Setor de Tradução e Interpretação da Polícia Judiciária Portuguesa.

The purpose of this report is to present the problems and difficulties that a translator may face when translating technical-scientific texts, since translation applied to the judicial system has a set of particular features which should be analysed in order to ensure that translation students will be prepared for their integration in the Portuguese labour market, where the demand for translators and interpreters with specialised legal knowledge has been increasing over the years. Consequently, the trainee who wrote this report has chosen to describe her experience within the professional context of Polícia Judiciária, where she completed a curricular internship, during which she produced numerous translations (using the English-Portuguese language pair) and back-translations (using the Portuguese-English language pair). Both these translations and back-translations, as well as their respective original texts, are attached at the end of this report. The methodology used in this research project was based on the reading and the analysis of each original text, which was followed by the interpretation of their content. After obtaining some knowledge about each source text, the trainee identified and thoroughly explained the difficulties and translation problems that each of those texts had presented to her. She also introduced practical examples to illustrate each of those particular difficulties and translation problems. The examples in question were taken from the original texts she had been assigned to translate or to back-translate. She further explained the strategies and techniques employed to overcome and solve the difficulties and translation problems. The final conclusions reached by the author of this research project are intended to help those who are interested in translation to understand the particular features and the institutional context-related constraints that influence the translation and interpreting work done by the members of the Translation and Interpreting Sector of Polícia Judiciária Portuguesa.
