Nos últimos anos tem-se assistido a um crescimento do número de museus de desporto em Portugal. Tendo diferentes tutelas, abrangências e localizações, estes museus vêm percorrendo um longo e difícil caminho de consolidação enquanto instituições museológicas cientificamente credíveis. O presente estudo explora essa realidade, tentando compreender como as características específicas destes museus podem auxiliar ou prejudicar o exercício das funções museológicas. O estudo de caso debruça-se sobre o Serviço de Mediação e Educação do Museu Benfica – Cosme Damião, explorando o seu contributo para o exercício da função social do Museu do Benfica. A proposta de reflexão aborda a realidade museológica desportiva atual e procura ajudar a preencher a lacuna de estudos académicos acerca desta temática.
In the recent years, there has been an increase in the number of sport museums in Portugal. Having several types of property and management, scopes and locations, these institutions have come a long and hard way to consolidate themselves as scientifically credible museological institutions. This study explores this, trying to understand how the specific characteristics of these museums can help or hamper the exercise of museological functions. The study case focuses on the Mediation and Education Service of Museu Benfica - Cosme Damião, exploring its contribution to the exercise of the social function of Museu Benfica. The proposal for reflection addresses the current sporting museum reality and seeks to help fill the gap in academic studies on this subject.
