According to the Annual Homeland Security Report 2020, the crime of Domestic Violence was the most reported in that same year. Of all domestic violence complaints that were filled, 85% concerned Intimate Partner Violence. Thus, it appears relevant to understand whether the news coverage of this type of crimes reflects its prevalence and severity, not only by denouncing that prevalence and severity but also by analysing its sociocultural context and its causes, to ultimately try to present solutions to the problem. The main objective is to understand how the media cover Intimate Partner Violence, and how they should effectively do it. To that end, an analysis of the print editions of the year 2020 of two national newspapers, Expresso and PĂșblico, was carried out and complemented by interviews with PĂșblicoâs journalists Joana GorjĂŁo Henriques and Ana Cristina Pereira, and the editor of Society Pedro Sales Dias. It was possible to conclude that although most of the main issues identified in the literature review had little expression in the pieces of these journals there is still room for improvement.
