Quando os desvios são voluntários: vozes africanas no hip-hop português e as suas práticas linguísticas (1994-2006)

Abstract

Nos estudos sobre o hip-hop, a língua é potencialmente o aspeto mais transversal, mas é, ao mesmo tempo, o menos examinado. A Hip Hop Linguistics, uma nova disciplina, procura estudar a língua e o seu uso no seio da comunidade hip-hop. O uso da língua no hip-hop caracteriza-se por ser fora da norma, para confrontar o poder e a hegemonia brancos e refletir as identidades dos rappers. Neste trabalho, pretendemos mostrar que os desvios no hip-hop português são deliberados, voluntários e intencionais, apoiados numa ideologia própria e nas identidades dos rappers.

In the field of Hip Hop Studies, language is potentially the most pervasive of topics, and yet, the least examined. Hip Hop Linguistics is a new area of inquiry, aiming at studying language and its use within Hip Hop communities. The use of language within Hip Hop communities is outside the standard norm, as a way of confronting White power and hegemony, and reflect the rappers’ identities. It is our goal to show throughout this thesis that the linguistic deviances in Portuguese Hip Hop are deliberate, voluntary and intentional, backed up by an ideology of its own and participating in the construction of the rappers’ identities.
