A louça quotidiana e identidade em Santarém na Idade Média (séculos XI-XIV)

Abstract

Escavações arqueológicas desenvolvidas em Santarém permitiram a descoberta de diversos recipientes que reflectem os quotidianos dos habitantes daquela cidade durante a Idade Média (séculos XI e XIV). Este é um período de grandes mudanças políticas e, consequentemente, sociais e culturais, que se vão traduzir em alterações ao nível da produção e consumo de recipientes destinados às mais diversas actividades quotidianas. O objectivo deste trabalho é mostrar como evoluiu a morfologia e a estética destes recipientes domésticos utilizados nas mais diversas actividades desde a confecção de alimentos, armazenamento e consumo e como reflectem as identidades e alterações culturais e sociais daquela população durante a Idade Média. Archaeological excavations made in Santarém led to the discovery of a high number of ceramic vessels reflecting the daily lives of the inhabitants of that city during the Middle Ages (11th-14tth century). This is a period of political, social and cultural changes reflected in the production and consumption of ceramic objects. This paper aims to discuss the morphological and aesthetical evolution of ceramic pots used in diverse activities such as cooking, eating and drinking and how these reflect regional identities, and social and cultural modifications during that time
