This study analyzes the immediate market reaction of the U.S. renewable energy sector to Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential election victory. Using an event study methodology based on the Carhart Four Factor Model, it examines abnormal returns of 18 renewable energy ETFs.
The findings show a significant negative reaction, supporting the Efficient Market Hypothesis, which suggests that markets quickly incorporate new political information. The results highlight how investor confidence in renewable energy is closely tied to policy stability, and
how political uncertainty can strongly influence sector performance, emphasizing the renewable sector’s sensitivity to government actions and expectations.
