O presente relatório surge na sequência de um estágio curricular no Sector de Tradução da Procuradoria-Geral da República. O foco principal deste relatório é a apresentação de algumas das dificuldades de tradução jurídica experienciadas, particularmente a classificação das mesmas em quatro tipos: textuais, pragmáticas, cognitivas e culturais. A partir desta classificação, pretende-se apresentar as estratégias desenvolvidas e as soluções encontradas para conseguir ultrapassar as dificuldades sentidas ao traduzir, respectivamente o emprego de operações de tradução e de casos de explicitação e implicitação. Dar-se-á particular atenção à competência tradutória, focando-nos especialmente no papel central da competência estratégica e em como esta guia o tradutor no processo de tradução e o ajuda a superar dificuldades que impeçam o fluir da tarefa tradutória.
This report is the result of a curricular internship in the Translation Section of the Prosecutor General’s Office (Lisbon). The main focus of this report is the presentation of some of the legal translation difficulties experienced during the internship, particularly the classification of such difficulties into four types: textual, pragmatic, cognitive, and cultural ones. Drawing on this classification, we aim at presenting both the strategies developed and the solutions found, in order to overcome the difficulties felt while translating, namely the usage of translation methods and explicitation and implication procedures. We will also focus our attention on the concept of translation competence, especially on the role of strategic competence and how it guides the translator throughout the translation process, while also helping the translator overcome obstacles that hinder the flow of the translation task.
