Partidos e Política na Monarquia Constitucional: o caso do partido Regenerador (1851-1910)

dc.description.abstractO Partido Regenerador foi uma força política da segunda metade do século XIX, que ainda não foi alvo de investigações sistemáticas. Este estudo debruça-se, precisamente, sobre esse tema, procurando enquadrá-lo na conjuntura política do período. Através da análise das características específicas do partido, tentaremos compreender os motivos que garantiram a sua longevidade e que o distinguiram das restantes formações partidárias da época. A investigação pretende analisar o funcionamento interno do Partido Regenerador e a sua evolução, tendo em conta um conjunto de elementos fundamentais: o seu processo de emergência, a ideologia que defendeu, a estrutura interna que adoptou, a forma como procurou estabelecer o seu aparelho partidário e os meios que utilizou na difusão da mensagem partidária. Estudaremos ainda a luta de poder dentro da organização e o impacto que as divergências ou dissidências tiveram na liderança partidária e na imagem do partido. Finalmente, faremos uma análise detalhada da representação e do comportamento do Partido Regenerador no Parlamento na sequência de duas eleições, 1881 e 1901. Desta forma pretendemos elaborar uma visão global da organização, que sirva como plataforma de apoio para analisar dois grandes temas: as dinâmicas internas do partido, tanto no que diz respeito à emergência de rivalidades e facções e à forma como estas evoluíram no seio da organização, como à sua acção no Parlamento, procurando assim compreender o seu grau de coesão interna; e a relação da liderança do partido com os seus apoiantes dispersos no país, especialmente no âmbito dos momentos eleitorais.pt_PT
dc.description.abstractThe «Regenerador» Party was a political force of the second half of the nineteenth century, which has not yet been the subject of a systematic research. This study focuses precisely on this theme, trying to frame it on the political conjuncture of the period. Through the analysis of the specific characteristics of the party, we will try to understand the reasons that guaranteed its longevity and that distinguished it from the other party formations of the time. The research aims to analyze the internal functioning of the «Regenerador» Party and its evolution, taking into account a set of fundamental elements: its emergency process, the ideology it defended, the internal structure that it adopted, the way in which it sought to establish its party apparatus and the means used in the diffusion of the party message. We will also study the power struggle within the organization and the impact that differences or schisms had on party leadership and party image. Finally, we will make a detailed analysis of the representation and behaviour of the «Regenerador» Party in Parliament after two elections, 1881 and 1901. In this way we intend to elaborate a global vision of the organization that serves as a support platform to analyze two major themes: the internal dynamics of the party, both regarding the emergence of rivalries and factions and the way they evolved within the organization, and its action in Parliament, thereby seeking to understand its degree of internal cohesion; and the relationship of party leadership with its dispersed supporters in the country, especially in the context of elections.pt_PT
