Identifying and evaluating players has been disrupted by introducing new data-based analysis tools, promising to change the way players are evaluated in an industry that relies on personal relationships. This study aims to understand the current process of player scouting, the problems hindering data-based analysis implementation and possible developments in the future in a discreet environment. Extensive research yieldedthree expert interviews through a qualitative research design that is supposed togive a foray into the practitioner's minds. Analysis revealed that data-based analysis is vital for every transfer decision and is expected to even further grow in importance. Implementation hindering factors are data quantity, separation of individual and team performance and resistance by most stakeholders. Essential for the Portuguese Football Observatory is the function of data-based analysis to develop new, younger target groups, its improved training function for youth players and growth opportunities in international markets. This study contributes to the overall understanding of data-based analysis in football transfers and their possible developments.
