Resumo(s)
With the amount of data exponentially growing, especially derived from the constant technological
evolution, data has become not only essential for companies that want to retrieve value from it and
create competitive advantages but also a necessity for ensuring compliance with current legislation
and sustaining data quality attributes. Data Governance emerges to give data its importance in any
corporate scenario by creating a new structure that guarantees data meets business needs, protecting
it from any internal/ external threat, and ensuring stakeholders’ commitment to maintain this system.
It is applicable through the definition, approval, and communication of data strategies, policies,
standards, and procedures necessary to enable better decision-making and ensure data security,
privacy, and quality. Data Governance frameworks’ importance arises due to their summarization
capabilities, turning a Data Governance program into an easy-to-read structure. It was found that
existing Data Governance frameworks have room for improvement when it comes to critical areas
tackled, implementation and monitoring activities definition, and implementation roadmap creation.
To fulfill these limitations, this study consists of a critical analysis of four existing frameworks according
to Data Governance Critical areas defined by assessing the most relevant attributes of Data
Governance and practical insights from already existing studies in this area. The result is a newly
adapted framework that tackles all critical areas by building on each existing frameworks’ strengths to
maintain its assertiveness, simplicity, and pertinence; and its respective implementation roadmap to
clarify its implementation and monitorization by increasing its practicality.
