Com a evolução da tecnologia e da inteligĂȘncia artificial (IA), em particular com o recente fenĂłmeno, GPT-4, o papel do tradutor volta a estar no centro de debate e discussĂŁo. De facto, a eficĂĄcia destes sistemas de IA Ă© inegĂĄvel. Contudo, Ă© possĂvel encarar este progresso como uma oportunidade para considerar a IA como uma ferramenta de apoio ao tradutor. SerĂĄ que os tradutores poderiam melhorar os seus conhecimentos linguĂsticos com o auxĂlio do GPT? E se as empresas decidissem investir na formação dos seus tradutores e linguistas internos? Este relatĂłrio apresenta um estudo abrangente sobre a criação de testes para o treino especializado de falantes nĂŁo nativos em inglĂȘs britĂąnico, visando a avaliação e formação de editores em tradução e localização intralinguĂstica. Utiliza-se o sistema Generative Pretraining Transformer 4 (GPT-4) para automatizar a criação de testes. A investigação centrar-se-ĂĄ na distinção entre o inglĂȘs americano e o inglĂȘs britĂąnico, procurando responder Ă questĂŁo se o GPT-4 Ă© eficaz no treino de linguistas nĂŁo nativos em inglĂȘs britĂąnico. Para responder a esta pergunta, foi necessĂĄrio explorar as capacidades do GPT-4 na tarefa mencionada, incluindo a criação de prompts, geração de bancos de questĂ”es e a subsequente avaliação das questĂ”es geradas por um linguista britĂąnico. Os dados recolhidos mostram a infiabilidade do GPT e a necessidade de supervisĂŁo humana.
With the evolution of technology and artificial intelligence (AI), particularly with the recent phenomenon, GPT-4, the role of the translator is once again at the center of debate and discussion. Indeed, the effectiveness of these AI systems is undeniable. However, it is possible to view this progress as an opportunity to consider AI as a support tool for the translator. Could translators improve their linguistic skills with the help of GPT? And what if companies decided to invest in training their internal translators and linguists? This report presents a comprehensive study on the creation of tests for specialized training of non-native speakers in British English, aimed at the assessment and training of editors in intralinguistic translation and localization. The Generative Pretrained Transformer 4 (GPT-4) system is utilized to automate the creation of tests that assist in the training and evaluation of translators in this specific variant of English. The research will focus on distinguishing between American English and British English, seeking to answer the question of whether GPT-4 is effective in training non-native linguists in British English. To answer this question, it was necessary to explore GPT-4âs capabilities in the mentioned task, including creating prompts, generating question banks, and the subsequent evaluation of the questions generated by a British linguist. The collected data shows GPTâs unreliability and the need for human supervision.
