Este artigo apresenta uma revisão arqueológica do sítio do Alto do Castelo (Alpiarça) e novas interpretações baseadas em levantamentos não intrusivos. O sítio tem sido objeto de estudo desde o início do século XX, principalmente devido à sua proximidade com necrópoles da Idade do Bronze. Investigações anteriores revelaram ocupações desde o Calcolítico até à época romana, com destaque para uma fortificação da Idade do Bronze Final e um possível acampamento militar romano republicano. Os trabalhos recentes incluem a revisão de espólios arqueológicos e a aplicação de técnicas de deteção remota (LiDAR) e geofísica (magnetometria), que permitiram uma melhor compreensão da ocupação humana e da evolução do sítio ao longo do tempo. Os resultados confirmam a complexidade do sítio, com ocupações que vão desde a pré‑história até ao período medieval islâmico, e fornecem novas informações sobre as estruturas defensivas e a organização interna do sítio. This article presents an archaeological review of the Alto do Castelo site (Alpiarça) and new interpretations based on non‑intrusive surveys. The site has been the object of study since the beginning of the 20th century, mainly due to its proximity to Bronze Age necropolises. Previous investigations have revealed occupations dating from the Chalcolithic to Roman times, with an emphasis on a Late Bronze Age fortification and a possible Roman Republican military camp. Recent work includes the review of archaeological remains and the application of remote sensing (LiDAR) and geophysical (magnetometry) techniques, which have enabled a better understanding of human occu‑ pation and the evolution of the site over time. The results confirm the complexity of the site, with occupa‑ tions ranging from prehistoric times to the Islamic medieval period, and provide new information on the defensive structures and internal organisation of the site. © 2025 University of Lisbon Centre for Archaeology.
