Central Banks can be seen as knowledge-based institutions imbedded in a learning economy that, due to their purpose and modus operandi, play a central role on the economic landscape all over the world, either regarding the analysis of past events, as well as by their impact on future changes due to their decisions. Their roles, purpose and objectives reflect the way they look at the economy and the way they see themselves as part of this construct. Therefore, the knowledge they produce, and publish, is a fruitful source to analyze the way Central Banks position themselves on this learning economy. An analysis of these publications, throughout the years and regarding a variety of journals, across several different countries, will be performed on this dissertation. Central Bank’s importance within the Knowledge-Based economy will be analysed through Bibliometric methods, while Markov Chains will allow us to check the transition probability from a state to another, thus leading to an understanding of the impact that systemic changes have on the focus that Central Banks have on their different objectives. Additionally, a sentiment analysis performed over the titles and abstracts of their publications over the past 40 years allowed us to perceive the inexistent difference in behaviors overs more core or peripheral countries Central Banks.pt_PT
