Terminologia vulgarizada na área das doenças infecciosas para fins de comunicação jornalística: o caso da malária

A presente tese visa descrever a metodologia conducente à criação de um recurso terminológico - sob a forma de glossário - dedicado à malária, cujo objetivo principal é veicular informação terminológica vulgarizada, destinada ao uso profissional dos jornalistas radiofónicos, em Angola. Para o efeito, partimos da constatação que a terminologia da malária nem sempre é usada de forma consistente, tanto pelos especialistas, como pelos media, originando imprecisões terminológicas nas diversas fontes de informação, o que pode ser contraproducente à adoção de comportamentos mais saudáveis pelos cidadãos. Assim, observamos a forma como os especialistas comunicam a malária e como os jornalistas divulgam esta informação, para chegar a uma proposta de recurso terminológico que contribua para a melhoria da comunicação, através da vulgarização dos termos utilizados nos discursos produzidos pelos diversos intervenientes. O produto que concebemos foi elaborado à luz dos fundamentos teóricos e metodológicos preconizados pela área científica da Terminologia - tendo em conta a dupla dimensão que a caracteriza - assim como pela Linguística de Corpora. Para tal, constituímos um corpus de especialidade e um corpus de divulgação do domínio da malária que serviu de base à identificação e estudo dos termos em uso nesta área de especialidade. A nossa abordagem está centrada na descrição científica e contextual do termo, recorrendo a processos de reformulação parafrástica, assente em dois registos linguísticos: a língua corrente e a língua familiar. Com base nesta proposta foi-nos possível propor a definição vulgarizada dos termos “malária” e “malária grave”. A informação encontra-se armazenada no Glossário Terminológico da Malária (GTM) que, no futuro, estará acessível no website TERMalária. Por fim, com vista à promoção e disseminação deste recurso, pensamos em associar-lhe outro recurso, desta vez, de conteúdos orais, o Malária Podcast, através do qual os especialistas podem pôr em prática um discurso oral de vulgarização da malária dirigido aos cidadãos. Para tal, elaboramos um guião com instruções para especialistas e para jornalistas. Em suma, com este trabalho de investigação procuramos, também, demonstrar os contributos da terminologia para a literacia em saúde e como ambas as áreas disciplinares podem, em associação, promover a educação para a saúde.
This thesis aims to bring up the methodology leading to the creation of a terminological resource (in the form of a glossary) intended for malaria, whose main objective is to convey vulgarizedterminological information, intended for professional use by radio journalists in Angola. For this purpose, we start from the observation that the terminology of malaria is not always used consistently, both by experts and the media, resulting in terminological inaccuracies in the various sources of information, which can have adverse effects on the adoption of healthier behavior by citizens. In this way, we observe how specialists communicate malaria and how journalists disseminate this information, to come up with a proposal for a terminological resource that contributes to improving communication, through the popularization of terms used in speeches produced by the various actors. The study that we have conceived was created in the light of the theoretical and methodological foundations recommended by the scientific area of Terminology - taking into account the double dimension that characterizes it - as well as by Corpora Linguistics. On the other hand, we constituted a corpus of specialty and a corpus of dissemination of the malaria domain that served as a basis for identifying and studying the terms in use in this specialty field. This approach is centered on the scientific and contextual description of the term, resorting to paraphrastic reformulation processes, based on two linguistic registers: standard language and colloquial language. Based on this proposal, we were able to propose the vulgarized definition of the terms “malaria” and “severe malaria”. The information is stored in the Malaria Terminological Glossary (MTG) which, in the future, will be accessible on the TERMalária website. For this purpose, with a view to promoting and disseminating this resource, we thought of associating it with another resource, this time with oral content, the Malaria Podcast, through which experts can introduce an oral discourse to popularize malaria aimed at common citizens. To this end, we have prepared a guide with instructions for experts and journalists. Thus, with this research work we also seek to demonstrate the contributions of terminology to health literacy and how both disciplinary areas can, in association, promote health education.
