The increasing reliance on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) has
transformed workplace interactions, enabling remote and hybrid work while introducing new
challenges related to technostress and social connectivity. Among these challenges, technoisolation has emerged as a critical yet underexplored phenomenon, referring to a paradoxical
experience of social disconnection despite constant digital connectivity. However, existing
research has primarily focused on cognitive aspects of technostress, leaving the social
dimensions of digital work environments underexplored. This study examines the effects of
techno-isolation and workplace loneliness on employee flow and perceived productivity,
applying the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model as a theoretical foundation. Using a surveybased quantitative approach, data was collected from professionals across diverse industries
to examine the proposed relationships. The research model was assessed using Partial Least
Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), which measured the relationships between
perceived technology complexity, ICT dependence, frequency of remote work, mediuminteraction compatibility, techno-isolation, workplace loneliness, and employee flow. The
findings confirm that technological complexity increases techno-isolation, while the frequency
of remote work contributes to both techno-isolation and workplace loneliness. Notably,
medium-interaction compatibility significantly mitigates these negative effects, reinforcing
the importance of well-designed digital communication tools. Furthermore, higher levels of
techno-isolation and workplace loneliness are associated with reduced employee flow. The
study extends the JD-R framework to technology-mediated work environments, positioning
techno-isolation and workplace loneliness as distinct job demands that deplete employee
resources. From a practical perspective, the findings emphasize the need for organizations to
invest in intuitive digital communication platforms and foster workplace socialization
strategies to support employee well-being, engagement, and productivity in the evolving
digital workplace.
