Este estudo investiga o impacto da diáspora cristã da Igreja de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo na Terra, Os Tocoístas, na vida dos imigrantes angolanos,em Lisboa Portugal, um fenómeno central no panorama das migrações e da reorganização religiosa destas comunidades na Europa. A justificativa para a pesquisa reside no interesse em lançar luz sobre como este movimento religioso africano contribui para a preservação da identidade angolana e, simultaneamente, desafia e/ou enriquece a sociedade de acolhimento portuguesa. Teve pois como objetivo do estudo analisar as percepções gerais dos elementos desta comunidade angolana e tocoista, o papel na identidade cultural dos indívidous proveniente da Angola , e qual o impacto social da Igreja na sociedade portuguesa. A metodologia é qualitativa exploratoria e intrepretativa, adotada, e com combinando pesquisa documental e bibliográfica com a realização de entrevistas semi-diretivas a 07 membros tocoístas angolanos, e imigrantes em Lisboa, com posterior de conteudo análise de conteudo . O estudo demonstrou que a Igreja Tocoísta, nascida da resistência anticolonialista de Simão Toco em Angola, e evoluindo como agente cívico, se expandiu para Portugal face a diaspora Angolana. Observou-se também que a fé Tocoísta atua como um vetor de resiliência individual e apoio social, preservando a identidade cultural angolana na diáspora e enriquecendo o pluralismo religioso português. Contudo, a Igreja Tocoísta em Portugal ainda encontra aceitação limitada na sociedade anfitriã e ainda apela por maior reconhecimento e visibilidade.
This study investigates the impact of the Christian diaspora of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ on Earth, known as “The Tocoists”, on the lives of Angolan immigrants in Lisbon, Portugal, a central phenomenon in the context of migration and religious reorganization in Europe. The justification for this research lies in its ability to shed light on how this African religious movement contributes to the preservation of Angolan identity while simultaneously challenging and enriching Portuguese host society. The study aimed to analyze general perceptions, the Church’s role in cultural identity, and its social impact on Portuguese society. The adopted methodology was exploratory, combining documentary and bibliographic research with semi-structured interviews conducted with seven Angolan Tocoist members living in Lisbon, followed by narrative and thematic analysis. The findings revealed that the Tocoist Church, born from Simão Toco’s anti-colonial resistance in Angola and later evolving into a civic actor, expanded to Portugal as a direct reflection of the Angolan diaspora. The study also observed that Tocoist faith functions as a vector of resilience and social support, preserving Angolan cultural identity within the diaspora and enriching Portuguese religious pluralism. However, the Tocoist Church in Portugal still faces limited acceptance within the host society and continues to call for greater recognition and visibility.
