This study aims to find some evidence that supports the relation between independence of regulators, quality of regulation, public ownership and the existence of golden shares, with telecommunication’s industry performance. It finds that regulatory independence and regulatory quality positively affects the sector performance and suggests a positive impact of government ownership on it. However, government ownership through the form of golden shares seems to have a negative effect on telecommunication’s sector performance. Data from 1997 to 2003 for the 15 EU member states is used.
