| dc.description.abstract | This project work presents a proposal for the translation of some excerpts selected from Act I of the play The Boys in the Band, by Mart Crowley, premiered in 1968. The translation identifies as its main objectives both contemporaneity and linguistic authenticity. The relevance of the translation of this dramatic text and its consequent analysis is centered on a few factors. The first is the fact that the play has never been performed in Portugal, and the film version of 2020 is the only version of Crowley's text to which the Portuguese public has access to. The second concerns some qualities that characterize it as linguistically queer. These qualities, observed and pointed out by some theorists as specific to this linguistic branch, represent translation problems that are particular to it, resulting in the application of equally distinct translation strategies. Finally, the scarce academic production in Portugal on the translation of this kind of marginal language is one of the most relevant research and descriptive motivations of this project work. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | O presente trabalho de projeto apresenta uma proposta de tradução de alguns excertos selecionados do Ato I da peça The Boys in the Band, de Mart Crowley, estreada em 1968. Trata-se de uma tradução que identifica como principais objetivos a sua contemporaneidade e autenticidade linguística. A relevância da tradução desta obra e da sua consequente análise centra-se em alguns fatores. O primeiro é o facto de que a peça nunca foi representada em Portugal, sendo a versão cinematográfica de 2020 a única versão do texto de Crowley a que o público português tem acesso. O segundo diz respeito a algumas qualidades que a caracterizam como linguisticamente queer. Essas qualidades, observadas e apontadas por alguns teóricos como específicas desse ramo linguístico, representam problemáticas tradutórias que lhe são particulares, resultando na aplicação de estratégias igualmente distintas. Por último, a escassa produção académica em Portugal sobre a tradução deste tipo de linguagem marginal figura como uma das suas mais relevantes motivações investigativas e descritivas deste trabalho de projeto. | pt_PT |
