Sustainability has become one of the most pressing issues of the 21st century. The present
project aims to understand how organisations, especially sports enterprises like SL Benfica, can
benefit from sustainability. The starting point was comprehending how SLB stands amongst its
direct Portuguese rivals regarding sustainable practices, comparing the results to fans’ views.
Then, the focus was to find official frameworks aligned with the UN’s SDGs that could drive
the club’s sustainability strategy in the future and develop standalone initiatives that could
pursue these goals and the frameworks’ objectives, never disregarding profitability.
