| dc.description.abstract | Vero e proprio fenomeno culturale del XX secolo, in ambito architettonico il cinema rappresenta da sempre il simbolo della modernità e del progresso tecnologico. Nella storia dell’architettura moderna, la progettazione delle sale cinematografiche va di pari passo con la sperimentazione di nuove forme architettoniche rese possibili dall’impiego di moderni materiali da costruzione (quali in primis il cemento armato), divenendo un importante banco di prova tanto per la verifica tecnologica degli stessi quanto per l’immaginazione spaziale di nuovi ambienti, così divergenti da quelli propriamente classici dei teatri. Spazio architettonico fruibile e funzionale al vissuto umano, il cinema diventa rapidamente espressione di crescita, di sviluppo sociale ed economico e di prestigio urbanistico. Anche in Portogallo, come nel resto dell’Europa, le sale cinematografiche sono segnali tangibili del cambiamento stilistico e formale dell’architettura della prima metà del Novecento, facendosi portavoce di un’immagine nuova che rapidamente adornerà le città portoghesi d’un aspetto moderno e scenografico al tempo stesso. Real cultural phenomenon of the twentieth century, in the architectural world the cinema has always been the symbol of modernity and technological progress. In the history of modern architecture, the design of the cinema goes hand in hand with the experimentation of new architectural forms made possible by the use of modern building materials (such as reinforced concrete), becoming an excellent test both for technological verification of the same as for the space imagination of new environments, so divergent from those of the theatres. Architectural space usable and functional for the human life, the cinema quickly becomes expression of growth, of social and economic development and urban prestige. Even in Portugal, as in the rest of Europe, the cinemas are tangible signs of the stylistic and formal change of the architecture of the first half of the twentieth century, becoming “spokesman” of a new modern image that will quickly adorn Portuguese cities with a scenic look. | en |
