Resumo(s)
This study aims to analyse the effects of the participation in the Euro for the Portuguese export performance. This investigation is accomplished by an augmented of being part of the European Monetary Union (EMU). The main results are that Portugal trades, historically, 12 percent more with countries from the Euro Area, but the introduction of the Euro in 1999 did not have any impact on its export performance. These results, are contrary to what happened in other EMU-countries and suggest the existence of some parallel factors that did not allow Portugal to take advantage of the transportation costs reduction.
