| dc.description.abstract | The Pocariça Festival is an annual Catholic festival dedicated to St Sebastian and Our Lady of Lourdes. From the beginning of the 20th century, a number of important changes took place in this Festival, as a consequence of the reforms adopted by the Roman Catholic Church, relating to the liturgy and events in Catholic life arising both from Motu Proprio Tra le Sollecitudini (1903), as well as the Second Vatican Council (1962-5), which were adapted by the Portuguese Church to local conditions. This article analyses the changes that occurred, from the 1950s, in the religious and secular music performed during the Festival of Pocariça: 1) the Portuguese Church's adaptation of Tra le Sollecitudini with the local brass band playing in the liturgy of the Festival, something prohibited by Motu Proprio; 2) the changes implemented after the Second Vatican Council II regarding liturgical music in the 1960s, and secular music in the 1970s, which were only fully implemented in the Festival after 1974 – with the beginning of the democratic period – diluting the dichotomy between religious and secular music. Indeedy after 1974, pop and rock bands, prohibited by Motu Proprio and considered secular and dangerous music for a Catholic event, began to take part in the Pocariça Festival. The Festival as a whole is considered an officium cordis, a religious festival coming directly from the heart. A Festa da Pocariça é uma festa católica que se realiza, anualmente, em honra de São Sebastião e Nossa Senhora de Lourdes. Desde o início do século XX, houve um conjunto de mudanças significativas na Festa, em consequência das reformas na Igreja Católica Romana, relativas à liturgia e eventos católicos decorrentes do Motu Proprio Tra le Sollecitudini (1903), assim como do Concílio Vaticano II (1962-5), que foi adaptado pela Igreja portuguesa à realidade local. Este artigo analisa as mudanças ocorridas, desde 1950, na música religiosa e profana tocada durante a Festa da Pocariça: 1) a forma como a Igreja portuguesa adaptou as normas do documento Tra le Sollecitudini à realidade local, permitindo a actuação da banda filarmónica na festa litúrgica, o que era proibido pelo Motu Proprio; 2) as mudanças implementadas após o Concílio Vaticano II, para a música litúrgica na década de 1960 e para a música profana na década de 1970, que apenas depois de 1974 – após o início do período democrático em Portugal – foram aplicadas à totalidade da festa, diluindo a dicotomia entre a música religiosa e música profana. De facto, após 1974, as bandas pop e rock, proibidas pelo Motu Proprio e consideradas profanas e perigosas num evento católico, passaram a participar na Festa da Pocariça. A Festa como um todo é considerada como officium cordis, uma Festa religiosa a partir do coração. | en |
