El mundo rural en el corazón de la Lusitania altomedieval

El estudio del interior de la antigua provincia romana de Lusitania durante la Alta Edad Media (ss. IV–VIII) está lastrado, a pesar de los importantes avances realizados en los últimos años, por la falta de trabajos sistemáticos de investigación. Un problema historiográfico que dificulta el conocimiento de los diferentes procesos políticos, económicos, sociales y cultuales, que interactuaron entre sí en el tiempo comprendido entre la desaparición del Imperio Romano de Occidente y la conquista islámica. En el trabajo presentado se pretende abordar este desafío investigador a través del examen global de la ciudad de Egitania (Idanha-a-Velha, Portugal) y su territorio, núcleo que alcanzaría un protagonismo capital el interior lusitano durante este período. Un estudio articulado con base al análisis de cómo interactuarían diferentes establecimientos rurales con este núcleo urbano y entre ellos mismos. En este sentido, la revisión crítica del registro material y de las escasas fuentes escritas disponibles permite aventurar hipótesis de trabajo, aunque cabe destacar que el aumento de la documentación nos lleva a un escenario de nuevas preguntas y problemas de investigación difíciles de resolver. The study of the interior of the old Roman province of Lusitania during the Early Middle Ages is weighed down, despite the important advances made in recent years, due to the lack of systematic research. A historiographic problem that makes it difficult to understand the different political, economic, social and religious processes that interacted with each other in the time between the disappearance of the Western Roman Empire and the Islamic conquest. The aim of the presented work is to address this research challenge through the global examination of the city of Egitania (Idanha-a-Velha, Portugal) and its territory, a nucleus that would achieve an important role in the interior of Lusitania during this period. An articulated study based on the analysis of how different rural establishments would interact with this urban nucleus and with each other. In this sense, the critical review of the material record and the few written sources available allows us to venture new hypotheses, although it should be noted that the increase in documentation leads us to a scenario of questions and research problems that are difficult to solve.
Los baptisterios de Egitania (Idanha-a-Velha, Portugal)

En el ámbito del proyecto de investigación IGAEDIS (Da civitas Igaeditanorum à Egitânia. A construção e evolução da cidade e a definição dos seus territórios da Época Romana até à doação dos Templários - séculos I a XII) se han realizado diferentes actuaciones arqueológicas en la actual aldea histórica de Idanha-a-Velha (Portugal). Además, la revisión de anteriores intervenciones, complementadas con la realización de dataciones absolutas, han permitido atribuir una cronología más temprana de la asignada hasta ahora a los dos “baptisterios” documentados en el yacimiento. Esta nueva lectura nos lleva a plantear un renovado marco de reflexión y crítica histórica, tanto de estas construcciones - piscinas bautismales - como del contexto en el que se insertan. Un ejercicio presentado en este trabajo de manera diacrónica, con el objetivo de mejorar el conocimiento sobre la evolución histórica de este sitio arqueológico entre los siglos IV-VIII.
Sepulturas escavadas na rocha na Beira Interior durante a Alta Idade Média

O presente trabalho aborda de forma muito sintética a problemática das sepulturas escavadas na rocha da região beirã partindo de duas escalas de análise: a microescala, que corresponde à escala do sítio arqueológico; e a macroescala, que, neste caso, corresponde à análise de toda a região. Na primeira abordagem tem sido fundamental a escavação de sítios com sepulturas, como o Penedo dos Mouros e São Gens, o que veio permitir uma nova compreensão deste fenómeno funerário. A segunda abordagem mostra-se também essencial pois começam a emergir claras diferenças na distribuição dos sítios com sepulturas à escala da região que nem sempres se podem explicar pela desigualdade no investimento da investigação arqueológica. Um desses casos é o território de Lafões aqui discutido sucintamente. This paper addresses in a very synthetic way the issue of rock-cut tombs in the Beira region from two scales of analysis: the micro-scale, which corresponds to the scale of the archaeological site; and the macro-scale, which, in this case, corresponds to the analysis of the whole region. In the first approach, the excavation of grave sites, such as Penedo dos Mouros and São Gens, has been fundamental and has allowed for a new understanding of this funerary phenomenon. The second approach is also essential as clear differences are beginning to emerge in the distribution of grave sites on a regional scale which cannot always be explained by the unequal investment in archaeological research. One such case is the territory of Lafões, discussed briefly here.
Configuración administrativo-territorial de la provincia Lusitania

In this article, we present the analysis of the different historical processes related to the administrative and territorial evolution of the ancient Roman Lusitania from a diachronic perspective.A line of study for which an investigation defined by the critical examination of the main written documents and materials concerning this subject has been proposed. In this way, we intend, within the space granted in this volume, to present and analyse the main issues related to the configuration of this Roman province from its creation until the Islamic conquest of 711.
Uma aproximação ao estudo das produções cerâmicas Alto Medievais (séculos IV a VIII) no território português

The analysis of the early middle age pottery productions is a marginal issue in the studies of the Portuguese Middle Age. A situation that has generated, nowadays, the lack of director fossils that help in the study of the material culture of this period. In this paper, we seek to address the reasons for this situation through an analytical approach to the history of the investigation of early middle age pottery in Portugal. A reflection that we hope may improve the perception of the current state of research, in which we will highlight what, in our opinion, are the priority lines of research development.
