This thesis consists of three chapters that examine from three different perspectives how inclusion (or the lack of it) affects the labor market and politics. Chapter 1 investigates the stability of non-cognitive skills in immigrants and how differences in these skills between natives and immigrants explain part of the native-migrant wage gap in Germany. Chapter 2 proves that public service deprivation helps explain an increase in electoral support for far-right parties in rural areas, using as a case study school closures in France. Chapter 3 studies gender differences in political campaigns using individual political platforms in the two-round French legislative elections and combines computational text analysis techniques with a regression discontinuity design.
