Examining local perceptions, characteristics that determine the population’s understanding of climate change are investigated. Results highlight that the poorest suffering food, income, and water insecurity realize the extent to which they are affected. Further analysis shows that changing climatic conditions contribute to a perceived deterioration in agricultural conditions and dissatisfaction with environmental efforts. This fosters a broader sense of mistrust in the president and government.
