João II e D. Manuel I)”, eHumanista. Journal of Iberian Studies, vol. 31, 2015, pp. 80–153.1540-5877http://hdl.handle.net/10362/19495With this essay, we follow the footsteps of a late-medieval individual and the manuscripts he produced. This study shows how fruitful a thorough examination of the materiality of historical sources used by historians can be, which in turn can illuminate both the social careers of local administrative officials and their intimate connection and complicity with the royal administration. This work also encompasses the reform of the municipal charters, one of the main legislative initiatives of the administrative machine in the early Modern Age in Portugal, confirming that its planning and implementation began earlier than previously thought by historians. Finally, by closely pursuing through the centuries the transmission of the main manuscript sources used in this essay, one has a glimpse of the bureaucratic procedures and archival organization during this period in PortugalporForais ManuelinosManuscritosColecçõesArquivosDos manuscritos à personagem: o percurso de Álvaro Fragoso, procurador de Évora e da comarca de Entre-Tejo-e-Odiana para os feitos dos forais (revisitando a reforma dos forais de D.
