Through this work, a better understand could be gained about how individuals in German metropolises and cities make the choice of their means of transportation and further which factors influence this choice. Furthermore, it was investigated for which of these factors perceived advantages regarding the use of either personal cars or alternative means of transportation exist. It could be found that the most important reasons for individuals to use personal cars lay in the factors (in this order) reliability, travel time, flexibility, accessibility of destinations and comfort and privacy.
