At the break of dawn of an age of Artificial Intelligence, an argument is structured in favour of artisanal literature, picking apart qualities which makes the human element in art so indispensable for ethical development, namely how it can nurture empathy and critical thinking skills, preparing individuals to partake meaningfully in a deliberative democracy. Although a focus is placed on the role of the writer, the text, and literature more broadly, this essay aims to illustrate why, more than ever, art, culture, and the humanities ought not to be farther removed from socio-political life, how, for the transcendent human qualities they embody and inspire, their devaluation must be resisted. This is one such effort of resistance.Tendo em consideração o presente paradigma pós-digital, esta dissertação junta-se ao atual e importante debate sobre os perigos das tecnologias digitais e como estas poderem exacerbar problemas existentes nos sistemas democráticos da contemporaneidade, quando movidas por incentivos que não se alinham com os melhores interesses da humanidade. No romper da alvorada de uma era de Inteligência Artificial, argumenta-se a favor da literatura artesanal, desvendando qualidades que tornam o elemento humano na arte indispensável para o desenvolvimento ético, nomeadamente porque pode nutrir a empatia e as competências de pensamento crítico, preparando os indivíduos para participarem de forma significativa numa democracia deliberativa. Embora o foco seja colocado no papel do escritor, no texto e, de forma mais específica, na literatura, este trabalho visa demonstrar que, mais do que nunca, a arte, a cultura e as humanidades não devem estar afastadas da vida sociopolítica: pelas qualidades humanas transcendentes que incorporam e inspiram, é preciso resistir à sua desvalorização.
