On the one hand, both dimensions of cognitive representation and reference construction underlie to all effects of non-coincident representations present in a text (and which may take the form of a “relexicalization” chain). On the other hand, it is precisely because we can have a non-coincidence of representations that language is an activity governed by an intersubjective adjustment. We will base our reflexion on a journalistic text in which we find a series of representational discontinuities. We intend to demonstrate that, through linguistic activity, we operate a transition from a non-material (abstract, cognitive) representation to a material (linguistic) representation. This transition, which has an undeniable relevance from the discursive point of view, is a describable operation in the functioning of language.51051174porCognitive representationReference constructionIntersubjectivityJournalistic textRepresentational discontinuitiesLinguistic representationDescontinuidade de representação cognitiva e linguísticaworking paperhttps://clunl.fcsh.unl.pt/grupos_clunl/gramatica-texto/cadernos-wgt/representacao/
