Employing a four phase methodology aligned with OECD participation guidelines, the research involved interviews, workshops, surveys, and stakeholder consultations. Findings reveal key local concerns – particularly around community integration and cultural preservation – and identify citizen driven initiatives across four themes: Nature, Community, Culture, and Economy. Challenges to implementation include tourist acceptance and economic feasibility. The study offers practical implications for regions seeking regenerative transformation and contributes original insights into region-specific, citizen-informed tourism development strategies.engRegenerative tourismParadigm changeSystem changeTourism managementRegenerative businessInnovationTourism in SalzburgParticipatory tourism planningPathway to regenerative tourism: analyzing a potential transition from conventional to regenerative tourism from the perspectives of the citizens of Salzburgmaster thesis203990447
