Desde meados do século XIX, essa relação tornou-se cada vez mais próxima, desencadeando o debate acerca da legitimação da moda como manifestação artística e incluindo-a nas instituições de grande dimensão da arte, nomeadamente na esfera museológica e na discussão académica. Ainda que a interação das duas disciplinas seja mais antiga, a partir daqui e durante os séculos XX e XXI, assistimos a interações e cruzamentos mais frequentes e profundos, com transposições de fronteiras, colaborações entre criadores, uso de técnicas e formatos comuns e uma estética complementar. Esta investigação estuda estes fatores de junção, a par de outros de rutura, através de uma análise prática de casos de estudo, que colocam em perspetiva estas interações e cruzamentos e questionam a viabilidade do reconhecimento da moda como manifestação artística. Apresentamos o resultado de uma análise qualitativa sobre o estado deste debate contemporâneo, que nos faz questionar os limites dos conceitos de arte e moda, onde se estabelecem as suas fronteiras e se ainda faz sentido existir esta delimitação.Art and Fashion have a mutual influence and complex, but undeniable interdisciplinarity. Since the middle of the 19th century, this relationship increased, triggering the debate about the legitimation of fashion as an artistic manifestation and including it in the major art institutions, particularly in the museological sphere and the academic discussion. Even though the interaction of the two disciplines goes way back, from that point on and during the 20th and 21st centuries, we have seen more frequent and deeper interactions, with border crossing, collaborations between creators, use of common techniques and formats and a complementary aesthetics. This dissertation studies those common factors, along with other disruptive factors, through a practical analysis of case studies, which put these interactions and intersections into perspective and question the viability of recognizing fashion as an artistic manifestation.
