O ponto de partida para esta proposta de estudo é o arquivo familiar dos Sousa Lobato, descoberto há cerca de sete anos. O arquivo é composto por centenas de documentos produzidos e acumulados por esta família, do último quartel do século XVIII até ao início do século XX e compõe-se, no essencial, por documentos oficiais de mercês régias - alvarás, cartas, portarias e decretos - referentes a nomeações para cargos palatinos, a atribuições de qualificações honoríficas nas Ordens Religiosas e Militares, a concessões de direitos (senhorios, terrenos agrícolas) e ao exercício de funções nas instituições oficiais do Reino - alfândegas, ouvidorias de Comarcas - e ainda processos documentais relativos às propriedades concedidas e alguma correspondência epistolar. Evoluir-se-á na árvore genealógica apresentando as distinções e privilégios concedidos aos principais elementos da família - três dos seus membros ascenderam a titulares - e desvendando como se posicionaram na sociedade do Antigo Regime, no advento do Liberalismo e no conflito entre Liberais e Absolutistas.In this thesis we aim to study the social evolution and political influence of the Sousa Lobato family, from the last quarter of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th century, reporting on their experience within the monarchical power as nobility of the Court. This study proposal is due to the Sousa Lobato family archive discovered about seven years ago. The archive is made up of hundreds of documents produced and accumulated by this family, from the last quarter of the 18th century until the beginning of the 20th century and is essentially composed of official documents of royal mercy - royal license, letters, ordinances and decrees - referring to nomination to palatine posts, the assignment of honorary qualifications in Militar and Religious Orders, the granting of rights (landlords, agricultural land) and the exercise of functions in the official institutions of the kingdom - customs, ombudsman of Comarcas - and also documentary processes related to properties granted and some epistolary correspondence.
