Mitigating Hate Speech on Social Media Platforms

Abstract

In the digital age, social media platforms have become arenas for the rapid dissemination of hate speech, adversely affecting individuals and communities worldwide. The proliferation of hate speech not only undermines the principles of respectful discourse but also threatens social harmony and individual well-being. Identifying and implementing effective mitigation strategies against hate speech is of paramount importance. This study builds upon previous work that compared the Perspective API and Universal Sentence Encoder algorithms to develop a unique toxicity score for detecting and reporting hate speech. The goal of this research is to explore the efficacy of various AI-powered applications and countermeasures in combating hate speech across different regions and platforms, offering insights into best practices and technological innovations in the field.​
